Meteor Shower cyphastrea care

Care

  • Difficulty: Easy.
  • Light: Low to moderate, about 50–150 PAR. Best contrast in moderate light, not blasting. High PAR fades the blue base and can make polyps look brown.
  • Flow: Low to moderate, enough to keep the surface clean. Gentle, indirect current. A dead spot on the mat is usually not enough flow, not "bad luck."
  • Placement: Lower to mid rock, shaded faces, the back of the scape, or a frag rack. Use it to cover bare rock. Leave a gap from zoas and from other encrusters so you control who owns the stone.
  • Feeding: Mostly light. Powdered coral food or amino once or twice a week is optional. It will grow without feeding.
  • Temperament: Peaceful encruster. The only fight is space. Don't start it against a coral you don't want covered.
  • Water: Steady alk about 8–11 dKH. Salinity 1.025. Temp 75–78°F. Forgiving on nutrients. Do not chase zero nitrate for this coral.
  • Acclimate: Float, drip 20–30 minutes, start lower in the tank. Move up only if it stays dark and you want more polyp pop.
  • Dip: Dip before the display. 1 cup tank water with CoralRx 1/4 cap, iodine 1–2 drops, or potassium chloride 1/4 tsp.
  • Watch for: Receding tissue at the edge (light or detritus). Slow growth is normal for this one. Don't "fix" it with more light.
