A bright orange, fan-shaped branching sponge on a short stalk; a non-photosynthetic filter feeder, not a gorgonian.

You receive: The sponge pictured, about 4" tall, on its rock. Photographed under reef lighting; appearance varies with your lighting.

• Light: Low; keep it shaded, since it does not use light and algae can foul its surface
• Flow: Moderate to strong indirect flow to bring food and keep detritus off
• Placement: Shaded bottom rock or under an overhang; feed phytoplankton and fine particulate foods several times a week, and never lift it out of water (trapped air kills sponge tissue)
• Space: About 3 inches, clear of stinging corals
