Care

• Difficulty: Easy.
• Light: Moderate reef lighting. Zoas color up under blues; too much white light can bleach the reds.
• Flow: Low to moderate, indirect. Polyps should open fully and sway gently. Hard blast keeps them closed.
• Placement: Lower to middle rockwork or a frag rack. Give about 2 inches from neighbors — zoas will encrust and can overrun softies if you let them.
• Feeding: Photosynthetic. Occasional fine particulate or coral food helps, but they grow fine without target feeding.
• Temperament: Peaceful to other zoas; can crowd slower encrusters. Keep off LPS and softies that need clear rock.
• Water: Steady alk about 8–11 dKH. Salinity 1.025. Temp 75–78°F. Stable parameters beat chasing perfect numbers.
• Acclimate: Float, drip 20–30 minutes, place, leave it. Polyps often stay in overnight — normal.
• Dip: Dip before the display. 1 cup tank water with CoralRx 1/4 cap, iodine 1–2 drops, or potassium chloride 1/4 tsp.
• Watch for: Closed polyps for days (usually flow or water swing). Pale/bleached centers from too much light. Pests like zoa-eating nudibranchs — dip and quarantine new frags.
